Summer Session 2010 - Report
| Summer Session 2010 Saturday - Arrivals Once the Yeti bar was set up ready for arrivals people started flowing through the doors throughout the day and everyone got to know each other over a few beers, even one of Tignes’ afternoon storms could do nothing to dampen their spirits. The games started early with Beer Pong and Babyfoot becoming pretty competitive. Sunday - Cocktails & Dreams Sunday morning proved a slow one for the Summer Sessioners, some of whom had driven through Friday night so a good nights rest was needed for all the activities on offer! Saturday’s storm had cleared the air and the sun was shining on beautiful Tignes. The mountain bikers took to the trails and I think by the time the day was up it wasn’t just the brakes that were worn out. Sunday night had a treat in store for everyone as Rowan and Si had been busy planning a Tom Cruise inspired “Cocktails and Dreams” night. With Rowan and Si practicing their bar skills and DJ Snowy Snow dropping the beats the Yeti was rocking! There was even a little firework display out the back of the Yeti. Monday - Water Jump, BBQ & Wild Wild West Night Monday truly was a busy day with the Racers getting up at their usual 6.30am to hit the pistes before they got too soft, the rest of the skiers and snowboarders took a slightly more relaxed approach and got up a couple of hours later. Some decided the weather was so beautiful down in the village that they wanted to hang around and get involved with some activities. Once everyone was back from their morning’s activities BUSC had organised a little session on Tignes’ infamous water jump. For those of you unfamiliar with the jump, it is a 35-metre slide that throws you far into the air before landing gracefully (or not) into the lake. Double front flips were the trick of choice of a few, Tom Moriarty decided this wasn’t quite enough and unleashed his new trick for the 2010/11 season… the two and a half somersault to face plant, corked. Charlie Whitaker also deserves a special mention for his huge flips which resulted in a sweet black eye. After an action packed day the next stop was a relaxing barbeque down by the lake, with Darren and Andy cooking up a storm on the grill while Coupe prepared a gourmet salad extravaganza. As if that wasn’t enough, everyone then retreated back to the Yeti bar for Mexican or Mexican’t night complete with Wild West themed fancy dress. There were Cowboys, Indians, we even had a couple of Cacti. Tuesday - Pub Quiz It seemed the weather was here to stay, and Tuesday was another beautiful day in paradise, although it ended up slightly more chilled out, as everyone was so tired from all Monday’s activities. The conditions on the mountain were slightly better as it hadn’t been quite so hot the night before, so everyone came back from skiing with big smiles on their faces and went to get involved with some of the other activities on offer with their SportTignes cards. People had a go at shooting, archery, canoeing, trampolining, to name just a few. That night Si played host to the Summer Session Pub Quiz, which proved a great success with everyone getting involved. The team from UWE dominated, perhaps helped out by some personal knowledge of some of the BUSC committee when it came to the bonus round. The highlight of the night was Drum n Bass musical statues, which culminated in a dance off between Jacob and Martin. Wednesday - Drop Zone & World Cup Night Wednesday saw another beautiful cloudless day, so everyone ventured up to Val Claret after the mornings riding for a barbeque and tunes up at the Drop Zone bar. With outdoor Babyfoot in the sun, an Indo Board to play with everyone got involved. There was even a live football match to watch between Lyon and Geneva, which got a few people very excited. Once the sun started to set everyone ran home to prepare their outfits for World Cup night in the Yeti. It turned out to be very entertaining with some very inventive fancy dress. Countries from Sweden, to Greece to Ghana were all represented. Thursday - Alpaka Meal Thursday was another sunny day, and people had got their confidence up and were starting to throw down in the park. The racers were still keen despite the early starts, in fact Matt Davey showed up every morning before the coaches had even turned up. Thursday afternoon was activities packed as always, the swimming pool being a popular choice. The slide was pretty popular, although I think the lifeguard wasn’t a big fan of the racing down it. For Thursday night we’d arranged a meal with our friend Tony at the Alpaka Lodge, and as always he delivered with a wonderful roast dinner. Accompanied by a healthy amount of Tony’s favourite Rosé. Then of course everyone retired to the Yeti Bar where Bleasdale and DJ Snowy Snow banged out the tunes while everyone danced the night away. Friday - Rafting, OAP Olympics & Drink the Bar Dry Everyone must have been really good in their previous lives, because once again the Sun Gods blessed us with a beautiful day, and everyone decided it was the last day so dragged themselves out of bed and up the mountain. Then it was a mad rush to fit in all the activities that had been missed out on during the week. Pedalos proved popular for a nice relaxing trip on the lake. A few of us decided that Tignes, despite all its activities was missing one thing we really wanted to do, so 7 of us piled into the BUSC minibus and ventured into the valley to try our hands at White Water Rafting. The final fancy dress theme was OAP’s and to go along with that Si had planned his OAP Olympics, complete with fig Newton eating contest and apple bobbing. Everyone then returned to the Yeti Bar for one last time, where prize giving was held followed by a preliminary edit of the Summer Session video. Watch this space over the next week or so for a final edit. |
